O'Reilly Publishing User Group Program

Recently we received confirmation from O'Reilly Publishing that we have been accepted into their User Group Program, this give the group access to discounts review copies and donations:

"O'Reilly offers free review copies of our books. Members may request a copy for review in your newsletter, web site, blog, mailing list, or for your group library from the group rep (currently the President). Requests for review copies must be submitted by the group rep. We are also encouraging user group members to post reviews to sites such as Amazon, Slashdot, and oreilly.com. In addition, we regularly donate books and other promotional items for raffles or auctions to help your group raise money, or for meeting door prizes."

The current user group promotion is: Buy 1 ebook get 1 free with the groups promo code (available to registered members at official meetings only). O'Reilly's eBook's are available in ePub for the iPad, Mobi, and PDF.

We also receive the User Group newsletter and any member who would like to receive it can request a copy through any of the Executive Members. I would like to encourage all our members to have a look on oreilly.com for book review ideas. An example review is here. Any WatRMUG member interested in reviewing a book should let me know in person at a meeting or send me a message via our Facebook page or our meetup account (note that you must be a fully paid WatRMUG member to be eligible for review copies and UG promotional offers).

Lynda.com User Group Partner!

I am delighted to announce that Lynda.com has approved the WatRMUG application to be a User Group Partner! This gives us access to the Lynda.com training videos and exercise files to use with our presentations and new user seminars but more importantly a 20% discount on annual memberships with Lynda.com for all registered WatRMUG members (this is HUGE because the savings on even the most economical membership at lynda.com is more than the WatRMUG annual membership)! For anyone unfamiliar with Lynda.com, they have video tutorials covering all aspects of computing, from basic Mac computer literacy to understanding YouTube to Adobe and Microsoft products to programming and developing in Objective-C (the programming language which most Apple and iOS software is written in). I hope everyone will take a moment to check out the sample videos over at lynda.com and see the huge library they have to offer.
